Management Training

Outdoor Training - A Sourcebook of Activities for Management Trainers
(Bill Krouwel and Steve Goodwill, London, Kogan Page, 1995. ISBN 0-7494-1428-6).
Available at around £100.00 from the publisher.

Basically a handbook of (photocopiable) exercises, the book's in A4 format and, in addition to 48 proven exercises, includes instructions on how to run and review the exercises safely and ethically, as well as a guide to
which training needs are met by the exercises, the media involved, and chapters on review and environmental
conservation.

"The exercises are set out in clear format, preparation, equipment (and where to get it), safety notes and a
complete set of delegates' notes for the exercises (photocopiable) which also have safety notes as an integral part....this handbook is useful not only to those engaged...in MDO, but to enable organisations who send
or are thinking of sending their staff on such courses.....a good reference as well as resource book."

Journal of Training, Education and Employment

Outdoor Management Development - A Critical Introduction for the Intelligent Practitioner
(Bill Krouwel, Stockport, ITOL, 2002. ISBN 0-9539790-1-6). Available from QED or the Publishers at £7.95.

A critical, carefully argued (and thoroughly researched) look at current practice in OMD, combined with advocacy of a less compliant approach within the experiential training profession. There's also a Chapter on practice and a series of fascinating appendices including a history of development training

"It would be a positive development if organisations or trainers considering the use of OMD at least took the time to consult this book before deciding on their approach. This might avoid expensive mistakes for organisations, and might even result in a positive and useful learning experience for delegates......Certainly this book should go a long way in renewing interest in a topic which has been widely misunderstood, but which still has enormous potential for deep learning experience."
